HI
after steering wheel re aliggnment on my 95 164 twin spark ,by main dealer some 6 years ago,i was left with a air bag warning light which flashes for about 5 minuites then stays on .Dea;er did not have software to sort ,and now I wish to sell car feel a buyer would not be encouraged to buy the car ,with this fault.
However local Alfa engineers have latest diagnostic equipment unable to use on the 164 which is a worrying trend.

Is anyone near St. Abans known to have the necessary software.
or a method of repair without equipment.

If its a TRW control unit you can diagnose error by the number of flashes.
1 No fault detected.
2 Faulty control unit
3 Module triggering circuit in contact with +12v
4 Module triggering circuit in contact with Gnd
5 Driver's side module triggering device resistance out of Tolerance
6 Passenger's side module triggering device resistance out of Tolerance
7 Supply Voltage below 9.5V
8 Warning light circuit fault.

Got this info from workshop manual for a 145/146. Not sure if it is the same as 164 but might help.

many thanks for your list of possible cause of airbag problem.
will give to specialist non alfa who says he has the software to fix.
I have lent my electrical wirkshop manual to a member who is putting a 164 v 6 engine into the rear of an alfasud sprint.
