Ok i drove over a curb at 50 kph trying to avoid another driver coming into my lane.

Apart from minor cosmetic damage i am trying to work out the severity of the mechanical damage.

Bearing housing snapped clean. fixable.
tyre and alloy damaged. fixable.

But there is a clean break in what i am calling an axle mount. it attaches to the back of the block. Is it cast into the block or a separate part that could be replaced?

Also the gearbox leaked all its oil where the axle enters the gearbox.

But ti does look like the axle has slipped out about 1cm.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, there are always some [email protected]£!hole on the road. Looks fixable to me. I think that the oil filter mount/axle mount that you refer to just bolts onto the block I'm my opinion. Might be able to source one from a scrap yard.

The shaft exiting the box can move a little bit and the leak may be either due to the seal being damaged or the shaft being damaged but luckily it all seems easily repairable.

Thanks guys. I recon it is easier than i first thought.

The insurance assessor had a look today and has considered it a what we call in au a repairable write off.
So i will be keeping it and fixing it my self.
