Hi all,
"Managed to save just a little bit of money, won't have to drive too far, just to the garage to replace my shocks" ;-)
As mentioned above my 166 is due new shocks cause driving it became somewhat unpleasant at this stage. Nose dipping, side shifting and overall fight to stay on the road when on back roads going anything above 70-80 kph. Motorway is also not funny any more above 120-130! Of course hypothetically cause I never break the speed limits.
I do have a rough idea what I would like to do but what I wanted to ask yous is your own stories/experiences/feelings after you have done the job yourselves, I mean mostly what parts have you used and how that helped with stiffness, stability, comfort etc.
I'm thinking of Bilstein B6 for the shocks as I'm very happy about B4 that I have put into my 156 and I think I'd stick with them for that reason. Springs however, not sure! Should I go for the genuine Alfa, should I go for 7 or 8 coil or should I go for something else to match with the shocks. I definitely do not want to have this car lowered because in my opinion it's low already and I think (assume) that this could take away too much of comfort out of the ride.
Also thinking about improving handling/getting rid of that side shifting. Probably I'll have to replace top wishbones but as to the rest I think that pressing out and replacing the bushes would suffice to do the job. I have noticed that Powerflex bushes have been mentioned more than once on the forums, wondering if it's a good option to go for them or use other after market ones? As far as I have noticed Powerflex are quite expensive.
Anyway, that's briefly what I'm gonna try to do.
I would like to ask if you could get me some tips, share your experiences etc.
All help much appreciated!
Peace, Love and Alfa Romeo! ;-)
