A little guide of how to install it:


DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.



Well first you need the steering wheel buttons with ACC button EPER part number is: 156130459
also you need to have the front radar and camera, the procedure is the same for the Giulia :)



0. If you don't want to remove the battery power it is best to leave your key away from the car so it doesn't go into standby mode. Also if you car has SGW you will need a few additional steps.



1. You need to remove your steering wheel airbag. There is a clip accessible from the bottom of the airbag with a flat screw driver..you press it with the screw driver and then the airbag should come off. They are cables attached to the airbag so be careful and you also should remove them.

2. Disconnect all cables.

3. Remove steering wheel from the car, will be much easier to work this way. Then unscrew the 3 screws on the back...one behind each buttons panel and one in the bottom of the steering wheel. Then working on the bottom part of the steering wheel you need to detach the plastic cover that looks like aluminum using a a plastic screw driver for clips or something similar BUT becareful not to damage the leather on the steering wheel. They are two big plastic clips almost in the middle of the steering wheel located below the airbag. Carefully detach them.

4. Once you have the plastic cover removed you can remove the buttons. Maybe it is a good idea to install the red start stop button if you want, at this time. Buttons have their own wiring so be careful with that as well. Take your time and don't rush ,it is not a very hard job.


5. Replace buttons with the new ones. Then put everything back together.


6. Connect Multiecuscan to your ABS and check that you have your steering wheel at 0.00degrees



7. Turn on the car without starting the engine, connect Multiecuscan (MES) and go to Proxi alignment.


8. In the part where you see that you have the cruise control enabled...disable it. Go to to adaptive cruise (select ACC+ not ACC) control and enable it.


9. Do the proxi alignment. It is best to use Wifi Cantier interface (meaning latest version of the interface that has both wifi and BT) with MES as ELM327 or other interfaces might fail at some modules.



10. When the proxi alignment finishes you will have error codes in some ECUs and you need adaptation of the ABS ecu. At this point the car is in safety mode and you won't be able to move it!!! Don't freak out. BUT for just in case everything goes to ****, park the car somewhere where it can stay until the tow truck comes.


11. Go to ABS ecu and go to parameters. Check that steering wheel is at 0.00 degress meaning 100% in the center not turn left or right...then go to adjustments and do steering wheel reset.


12. After that do a brake pressure reset.


13. Also do YAW sensors reset.


14. Delete DTCs erros in the ABS unit


15. Switch off the car and wait a few mins.


16. Turn on the car again and go to engine ecu delete DTCs there as well. After the proxi alignment is finished you will have erros in many ecus. (your engine might start to shake a little....don't freak out :) in most cases it doesn't. Thing is that engine is loosing connection to ABS unit, to say it short and some other stuff.


17. After deleting dtc in engine ecu go to all other ecu and delete errors as well.


18. Switch off the car and wait.


19. Turn on the car press the cruise control and acc buttons and look at the display to see if the icons do appear.



20. Find a nice road and with a friend of front of you try the ACC and learn how it works... also read the owners manual before that.


21. Always look at the road ahead and be prepared to brake.


22. Enjoy your rides an be safe

Nice! You are a brave man! However, this mod is very tempting, as I already miss the ACC from my old car.

How much is the ACC Button part?

I've just googled MES and Cantiecar - informative!

It is 66 euro regular price for the buttons.

Good price, compared to UK option price for ACC of £890 from factory!

It's a great tool, however, note the comment on cars with SGW (produced after ~Feb 2018)

yes been reading about this and options on how to bypass. Not sure if I would want the hassle of trying to remove/replace the SGW module behind the dash, especially whilst the car is still in warranty.

There is also possible issues with ACC recall for updated software, which could only come from dealer........

Maybe in the near future there will be a legit way to use MES with SGW cars by subscription from FCA... 1euro for 24h period.

BTW keep in mind that not all 2018 cars have it..best thing to do is check.

Will get in touch with ALFAOBD developer as well maybe he can do it as well.

About the ACC update we are working on it and will let you know as soon as I have any information.

For now for 500kms it worked without any issues.

beware of the 8238 recall!

Excellent tutorial... let me however emphasize one critical check everyone with an older car (2017 for sure, maybe part of 2018 batch also?) should perform before even thinking of activating ACC. This year the 8238 AR recall has appeared for Stelvio and Giulia owners - and unfortunately, those of us without the factory ACC option are not getting it! So - at least for now - if you own a car that has that buggy BSM module SW version (need to check the exact HW/SW combination in the recall doc; do not look in the VINs range there) - there's no chance of safely activating the ACC (the recall is about the risk of uncontrolled car speed increase when ACC is active - yep, sounds scaring...).
Just a warning to everyone with such plans - because I already got the buttons module with ACC from the dealer and checked the BSM for the bug later - unfortunately, I the car has that bug, and according to the dealer there's no chance of getting the 8238 recall performed on car with no factory ACC...

it is chance. you need somebody to activate ACC sales option for your VIN, then Witech will find and update. even temporary activate.
Also lets be reasonable - cars were using buggy firmware for ACC for 2+ years and nobody even on any forum I followed complained about car speeding up. Moreover, with ACC you have very safe distance to preceeding car, even if your car starts increasing the speed, you watch the road, and act. ACC, LDW, AEB, ESP, ABS etc won't drive for you, they are just supporters, but it is driver who is in control and is required to pay attention all the time.

Do you trust new firmware or other firmwares in this or any car to be bug free? They are not I guarantee you. I seen too many bugs in all equipment I deal with both home and professionally. I too long work in developement as well. Even all was 100% bulletproof and smartest/best algorithms, still hardware is not space grade (which still does not guaratee everything), no redundancies inside hardware (like parallel paths of processing with voting of result), no protections (like hanning coding redundancies in dataflow for self-correction) etc, so anyway any car (electronics) at any time may get corruption/glitch in operation, and so misbehave.
Look at recent Boeing 737 Max story - in cars surely you do not have any comparable development effort and certification testing, so it can be only worse. Of course once they find the safety bug, they have to correct this, so there is campagin, as otherwise if accident happens and it is known FCA knew about issue, they would be screwed by court sentence if one charges them.

This post interests me greatly.
I have a 2016 Giulia, with radar and camera.
So a priori no activation problem?

Except that...
I have a manual gear box ^^
So yes, it will limit the use. But good in 6th speed on the highway it is always frustrating to disable the regulator for some km / h of differences.
I have the Adaptive Regulator on the Peugeot 308 manual gearbox and it's nice enough not to tamper with the speed settings all the time.

So my second question, with a manual gearbox is possible to activate it? :)

Maybe you can try to configure a car with manual and ACC on one of the Alfa Romeo web pages and see if it is going to allow you.

I cant answer your questions, but heard that blind spot monitoring must be in the car. maybe somebody else could confirm?

Should be possible to active it with manual.

Maybe you can try to configure a car with manual and ACC on one of the Alfa Romeo web pages and see if it is going to allow you.
On the configuration site it is stated that ACC is for AT8 only.
Due to the operation of this one I suppose (until the stop of the vehicle). Here in manual transmission it fraudra be careful not to be sub-scheme or overspeed. That I can accommodate myself.
But hey, I would not want to invest if it's impossible to activate ...

little late night thinking :)

Problem with manual trans. is that the car can not stop itself... 6th gear driving at 130km at 2000rpm...the radar detects a car a front of you...slows down...the car a front comes to a stop...at around 1000rpm your engine ecu will try to prevent the engine from stalling so injection more fuel...but ACC will try to stop the car...most probably the ABS ecu will prevail.... :titanic:

I got a spare steering wheel with the proper module installed but I have noticed it doesn't have 3rd cable for heating.. do you think it will throw errors if I connect the steering wheel and don't connect this additional cable? I would prefer quick option just replace the steering wheel and for now just ignore the heating;)

Not sure, but I think it won't give any errors. Especially if you don't turn the steering wheel heating on :)

Replaced just a module and it works.. wondering about this ABS module update.. I have also heard that radar software is different in non factory acc not sure if somone can confirm that info and that it should be also updated when activating ACC aftermarket..

Nope, exactly the same as before.

Next month I will have to do my first oil change and will see about the updates of ABS and so on.
