Hi,

I am an owner of a 159JTD Ti in Australia. I have had the car for about 2.5 years and mainly do city driving (to and from the train station each day). I have consistently averaged about 450km out of a tank of diesel. This translates to about 13l/100km or 22mpg.

I am confused as to how the trip computer makes its calculations as it consistently shows a range of high 700kms when the tank is full, but by the end I have only travelled 450. I checked this with the odometer and confirmed the 450 is correct.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've noticed that most trip computers fluctuate.
I think what happens is the algorithm is not too complicated. It probably calculates it according to an average speed and continuous driving. Seeing as you use yours for City driving there is a lot of starting and stopping; idling at traffic lights, fluctuating speeds and so on. I don't think the trip computer can incorporate those kinds of variables in its calculations. Like I said it probably uses a very basic algorithm with very simple variables.
