Morning all, I am new to this forum lark so please bear with me! I have just bought my 3rd Alfa 147 (yes, well and truly addicted!). This one is a 2002 147 JTD 8v, as soon as I bought it I took it to my local garage to get it serviced and have a timing belt kit fitted. When it went in to the garage it was making no noise at all, when I picked it up it sounded like a family of starlings had moved in!! It makes the noise all the time but it's a lot more noticeable when driving at slow speeds or when stopped. I've taken it back to the garage who say they have fitted a new belt but the noise is still there so they think it's a tensioner but they can't tell which one. They told me to drive it until it gets louder then bring it back as they will be able to tell which one it is and replace it. Am I being sold a line here or what??!! Have any of you guys got any suggestions on what it might be?? Thanks for any advice, really appreciated.

The aux belt on my 2.4 JTD was twittering away and it turned out to be the bottom pulley - the expensive one. It was beginning to fail and allowed the belt to run out of line.
