Hi all,

I replaced the gearbox oil on my 2.4 159 yesterday - all went smoothly apart from a slightly rounded filler plug.

I was surprised when draining the old oil that this was a dark red colour - rather like an ATF? I've no evidence of this having been changed before - is this the original oil?

Car is on 77k miles, the last 10k in my ownership. I replaced with Fuchs Titan Race Synchro 75w90, whilst it's not a race car, this was the correct GL4 spec.

Also, should the drain plug be magnetised? - there wasn't one on there, but looking at replacements (for vauxhalls I might add) these seem to have a magnet on... and my old 147's was - just don't want a chunk of magnet floating about in there.

I have the same F40 box on my 2.0. Red fluid has always been in mine (both the original and replacement) and there is no drain plug magnet....at least not on mine!

Thanks, good to know - the replacement for mine was yellow - typical gearbox oil colour oil.

I have to say it's made a hell of a difference in changes between 1st and 2nd
