Just got my first Alfa so haven't a clue how any of it works or what's what! Firstly the speedo isn't working whatsoever, any ideas on what to check and where to look would be great.

Another thing, the hazard lights work fine but they keep coming on by themselves at what seems like random times! Any ideas?

You need to provide more info on the car. Year & phase (1, 2 or 3). e.g. Phase 1 takes its speedo feed from a pulse generator on the gear box. Phase 2 & 3 use the ABS system.

your hazards will be your 'alarm' going off silently.

I doubt it will go through an mot with sat nav as a speedo? Would rather it worked. Can that job be done yourself? Well I wasn't aware it had an alarm as it came with one key only. Any suggestions on how to solve this? Please

A non-working speedo won't fail the MOT as the vehicle isn't tested on the road, but it is against the law to drive without a speed measuring device so a GPS unit would be fine. Or in the mean time, ask very nicely on here for relative speeds in particular gears and if your rev counter is working, base it on that.

If it isn't behind the radio being a phase 1 it could be behind the main instrument cluster. That's actually the more likely location.

If you do have to take out the instrument cluster to find the alarm, have a look at pin 7 of the green connector ( the one nearest the doior ) of the instruments. That's the pin that supplies the speedo signal. Just check for obvious damage.

Just be aware , whilst the speedo isnt an MOT failure and you can use a satnav, the only other issue is that the odometer isnt going to change and that is ok until you sell the car then it might become a bit of an issue...

On early cars the scorpion alarm was a combined unit under the bonnet, with an infra red detector behind the interior light.
No, that was the factory fit alarm.

The Scorpion was fitted by ARUK/dealers. It was a lot more advanced and secure than the factory fir IR job with Thatcham 1 approval and a battery backed siren. It also used wireless not IR. The alarm unit was fitted behind the main instuments and the siren behind the engine bay trim.
