So what's the difference between a 939 and a 946? I'm confused.

I always thought my Spider was a 946 - but when ordering parts recently I was told that it's actually a 939... I've Googled both and they both seem to be Brera Spiders. Can anyone shed some light?

In short: it is a 939 (is that in your VIN number after the "ZAR" ?)

I can't remember why, but I always refer to them as 939 spiders

The Spider is a 948 if you really look into it.
To everyone else it's a 939.
Haven't a clue why this site uses '946', the one thing that it's not.

Didn't we establish that all 159s, Breras, and Spiders have 939 in the VIN?

The 'factory' classification is more relevant here to distinguishing this Spider from earlier ones like the 916.
In the same way that Porsche fanatics talk about a 964, 993, 996, 997 when all are 911s.

I personally hate the term 'Brera Spider', I just think it looks a hell of a lot better than a Brera and deserves to be simply 'Spider' which is exactly what Alfa called it.

I use 939 because that's what the Alfa Romeo Owners Club call it and if after parts or info you'll get a lot more from a 939 search.
Using just Spider brings up more 916 stuff than ours.

I still cant work out why this forum uses 946.
