Which locking pin do you mean? The one released by the clamp at the top of the windscreen/leading edge of the hood, the one on side behind the door that holds the clamshell shut or the one at the back that locks the base of the frame under the window in place?

I’m not sure about manual hoods but on the auto hood there are two micro switches where the pin goes in. The first tells the ECU that the pin is in the hole and to start the motor. The second tells the motor when the pin is in far enough to be locked in and to stop the motor. If this doesn’t happen, the motor shuts off after a set amount of time so the motor doesn’t burn out. The pins can be adjusted for length so they lock in properly.

Your hood may have shrunk a bit over time. You can try the following: with a flat blade screwdriver or chisel, push it down the holes and gently prise each of the 2 wires where the pin drops into a little they may have become weak or bent over the years of opening and closing the roof. The other option is to either tighten of loosen the pins where they fix to the frame of the hood. It's a bit of trial and error. Does one side pop up more than the other? Also check the state of the actual pins.

the depth of the two pins off the rear hood frame are threaded and can be adjusted and lengthened to increase their reach into the depths of the locating holes.
