Got to get a 60k service for my 2L, although it's only done 50k....it's been a year since last.

Going to go with £250 inc VAT from local specialist.....local Alfa dealer quoted £300 PLUS VAT!!!!

I guess it is this much as the plugs get changed.

Is this about right?

I've just had my 1999 Twin Spark serviced at 50,000 miles and was charged two hours labour. As plugs are expensive (although cheaper if you get them from some where like E B Spares), and are supposed to last for 60,000 I thought I'd wait for another 10,000 miles before getting them changed.
Just a thought; Which local specialist are you taking it to Giles? If it's Les Duffy, he's really expensive, charging even more than the main dealers to do some jobs. Don't know where in Bristol you are but if you're any where near Chipping Sodbury I'll let you have the number of the place that serviced mine.
Cheers,
Tim

The plugs don't last anywhere near 60k! They still work, but they will have deteriorated enormously. Champion plugs are available for £48.00+VAT from EB Spares for a set of 8. They will do 30-40k. How long are you going to keep the car?Don't forget to think about belts if you haven't already had them done by 60k....

Tim P.....
I normally go to Steve Bateman on Central Trading Estate, he is booked to do the service. Do you think £250 too much then?

Ricks Alfas....
Well forgive me for not being mechanically minded..... but the car is not running that well from startup sometimes and I was wondering if this was the plugs - this would follow your theory that the plugs don't last very long. I am planning to keep the car for maybe 6 months longer as I have already shelled out on variator and belts!

For 6 months? Might as well get the cheaper plugs then!
Or is 6 months longer than something else?
Either way, I reckon you would be better putting in two sets of cheap plugs than one set of very expensive ones.

I guess that will save maybe £50?

I guess I don't know how long I will keep it....I tend to do things on a whim....next month I may have decided to change it!!!!

Thanks for the help.

Shouldn't the belts, tensioners and everything else be done for a 60k service?

I had a 60k done on my TS at 30k (5 years old) and had all this done for just shy of £500. Mangoletsi wanted over £700 to do less  .

Actually, wasn't there something about Alfa recommending it's done before 60k now?

60k (or 5 years) is the plug change. Alfa charge about £150 for the plugs alone.
72k (or 6 years) is the belts. It is now recommended that this is done at 36k.

alfa dealers rip you off for every thing !

i paid £60 for the set of 8 NGK plugs, but that was from someone who has contacts in the trade.

still shows you how much profit alfa want to make !

It's not all bad, I just booked mine in for a 12000Mile service, price quoted £136.00. Including fully synthetic Oil.
By special arrangment the Courtesy Car will be a JTD-16V Sportwagon Veloce. :p

Thats about £60.00 less than it cost for an 18K service on my Wifes Mazda, and the Courtesy Car was Crap....
