The car can detect them when they're in the way, and the report says this works well. It's mainly the top of the wings which don't have a lot of absorption in them as they're low.

Maybe it failed to meet the standards Alfa had set for themselves, rather than failing something like Euro NCAP?

It would be in Alfa's best interests to make it safer than the competion as that is another good selling point.

why should an Alfa driver be less concerned about safety? You can be safe and still have fun.
