I need to replace my flaky Blaupunkt headunit in my 2006 GT (Bose). It's started squeaking when spinning a disk  and I'd like to use my ipod mini anyway.

I believe it needs to have 4v Pre-out to drive the Bose Amp properly.

I also want a direct, hidden connection to my ipod Mini and red backlighting would be nice.

I've searched and searched but it's hard to find a 4v headunit that's within my budget of sub-£150.

Anyone help?

Cheers.

If you decide on a model with less than 4V preouts (eg: 2V or less), you can still use it, and will be best to use the speaker outputs instead of the low level RCA preouts.

The speaker outputs are amplified by the headunit's internal amp ICs, so they will be more than 4V at full volume. Plenty for the BOSE amp. But the sound quality will be slightly worse than using preamp RCA outputs, that's all (you might notice some hiss, and if you're fussy, it might be slightly lacking in dynamics, clarity, and bass/treble frequency response; all of which might be 'inaudible' to non-fanatics).
