I have just been quoted £495.00 for a second service from the dealer I bought the car from. He did come down to £450.00.

I laughed, and then he said something about a Gold Service, which came out at £169.00 and then bolt on the spark plugs for £325.00.

Is this the normal price for a 09 Mito 1.4 120BHP Veloce?

Just going to sit down for a while, as I feel slightly giddy. :vomit:

Not normal - push them more or go elsewhere

my 36k service was c£130 (+ c£70 for brake pad change)

spark plugs came in at a very reasonable £106 (i had this done a month or so later elsewhere)

Service - MVC, Sale (Manchester)
Plugs - Monza Sport Tuning, Ashington, West Sussex

to be fair - most dealers have to service expensive show rooms etc. and so charge more

although monza are a dealer too (perhaps because service is the same site, and not a large one at that)

Cheers, I thought it was a little extreme. Found a place in Wolverhampton WAD Alfa Romeo, not sure if they are any good. Will ring round a few to see whats what.

Fiat dealers generally have cheaper labour rates, remember the Alfa dealer has to finance the de longhi coffee machine in the showroom

Question: is it worth getting your car serviced at a dealer when you can't have long to go on your warranty ? (09 plate is 3 years old this year)

Why not go to a specialist like Motormech in Birmingham, they'll service it for a reasonable price and do a thorough job. Plus it shouldn't void what remains of your warranty providing they use the right oil and stick to the schedule.

I ended up getting a much cheaper price from dealer, didn't quite match the Independent price, but was close enough for me to agree. My dealer is five minutes away from where I work so I'm being lazy, plus they did a good job in first service.

Thanks for the advise and suggestions. I have to say in future I will probably use WAD in Wolverhampton, lots of positive comments on this forum (looked after posting this) and they were very pleasant and helpful on the phone.

Answer to your question, my warranty runs out in May so you were probably right.

Yep, that sounds about normal for a stealership! They're real buggers for it and don't half pile it on. They quoted me something similar for that service (£480) I ended up getting it done at my trusty Alfa Independent for less than £150.

+1

Well it was £175 in the end. The dealer did drop from £425 to 250 in a bid to get the business back though. Too late at that point though i'm afraid!

Does seem a lot at first, but did a bit of research and a quick search onlinegot me 4 plugs for about 80ish. Never fitted plugs before but wanted to learn so watched them do it.

Mito has 'platinum' plugs that last longer.was told that most plugs don't last a long as 36k miles.

Anyone more knowledgeable can clarify this?

They changed the plugs on my 18K service? so therefore they are changed twice by the 36k mark?

The Gta has platinum plugs too (in fact I think all alfas have and have had for over ten years) and my indie says they do 60k miles, so mine haven't been changed.

to be fair this manual says so

im pretty sure my manual says 36kmiles - or basically second service.

plugs also depend on turbos and engine size type etc though. I think 'platinum' is just denoting a higher quality plug.

interested about the 60k though. had mine changed at 38k and there was quite a sharp difference in how smooth the engine was.

anyone else got anything on this?

Surely 36000K miles is 36million,do there may be some wear and tear items involved .Seriously,it's worth haggling, but make sure they do not try to sell you unnecessary work.

I'm pretty sure your manual will say the same as all the others, ie change spark plugs at 30k km / 18k miles.

( The 2008 versions & the most recent version from 7/2010 both say exactly the same regarding the spark plugs )

£80 for 4 plugs seems way to high platinum and iridium plugs are about £10 each, or is there something special anout the mito plugs?

since done a bit more and you're right - going price for 1 mito 1.4 tb seems a bit above £10, so factoring in delivery, online price seems c.£50

don't think the mito's plug's are anything special no
