So,

I finally got my project going along and have rebuilt one cylinder head.

I got 2 new camshafts and while building the other side, I noticed that the other camshaft doesn't fit on the other end to it's slot. The diameter of the outer rim on the "hidden" end is about 1mm too much?!

as I browsed through eper, I noticed that the other shaft is of older make (replaced by another in ~94) and the other that doesn't fit is the one that replaced it (eg. 94 onward).

So is the newer one from 145/146 boxer and can I bore the hole bigger in the valve cover housing, or do I need to get a matching cover?

There are cams for hydraulic lifters and cams for mechanical tappets and they are not interchangeable and won´t fit in another cam housing. Housing with removable lid will fit mechanical cam only, closed housing hydro cam only.

Yes, I'm aware that there are different types.

All the engines I've had has had hydraulic tappets (all of them are from 91-94 cars).

And the camshaft in question that doesn't fit ANY of the heads I have from any engine, is even newer. Thus I'mthinking it's from 145/146.

The camshaft is exactly the same otherwise, the other end is just wider.

I'll try to take some pictures.
