to all those who have phones named after a fruit .. can you not turn
it off at all, just for a bit, apart from terrible situations, nothing is that
important at all ...

I have trouble remembering how to turn my samsung something on...

I usually don't bother

What is so important... It can wait

Funnily enough we managed perfectly well without them.

Why just the fruity ones Q?

Mine stays on 24/7*. What's the point of having it otherwise? Nice melon though, it rescues your post!

Ought to say, it is on all day because I don't know in advance when I am going to get a call or a message and it is on all night because I use it as an alarm clock.

No it isn't, all I'm saying is don't answer like a dog after a bone

some seem to need surgery to remove it from their ear ...

...if life is that complicated then maybe a holiday would help

To be fair, I don't think the kind of people you are referring to only use 'fruit phones'. My son is glued to his phone and that's a Samsung!

If it's constant users of phones you are aiming your comments at why only choose those that have iPhones and Blackberrys? Or is that just you being short-sighted?

I'm aiming my comment at all ... regardless of fruit based phones, that was an intro
... get off it and stop talking rubbish that can be said face to face nearly in a few minutes

what is the panic :eek::)

No panic. I don't panic :)

Just clarifying your angst.

Not really ... it's a "healthy" debate - nobody is right or wrong

(although I think I;m right)

Healthy you say... so what are the long term side effects of having a phone glued to your tab constantly

Perhaps healthy was not the correct term .. :p

It's interesting that there are so many landmines in what looks
like a peaceful field. There should be a notice on the gate....
Beware of the Phones.

You (we) seem to have trodden where angels fear to tread Mr Q :)

Quinn...you're out of touch on this one and your reasoning is subjective ;-)

There are many reasons why people use their phones; and mobile phones are now - right or wrong - a force of nature.

By that I mean the phone's immediacy - and phone users - creates and encourages far more 'on the fly' situations. The phone accelerates the speed of life for its users. Now, everything, can be left to the absolute last minute as long as there's a network connection available to make last second changes. The phone brings everyone closer to the proximity of the deadline, so - as you have said - what never used to matter, suddenly matters because it's been pushed to the extreme, because the person knew it could be (thanks to the mobile). Therefore, the margin of error is diminished, and what never used to be important, suddenly is.

*I think* :)

Well, like most people, I have my phone (BlackBerry) with me throughout the day BUT I do switch it on silent/off should I be somewhere quiet (a nice restaurant for example) or a meeting. I think it's the height of rudeness to bark seemingly meaningless twaddle into one's phone whilst others are eating.

So, I agree with you Quinn (a bit) :)

You think right ;)

I've used my phone today to;

Post endlessly on here (tough!)
Check where I am going
Check advice from Bazza on parking when I get there
Find out where I am, and what's around me
Photograph the Aston Rapide I parked by
Talk to someone close to me
Fill in the RSPB bird watch questionnaire
Post this tosh

... and no, I haven't talked loudly on it while eating or walking down the street.

Mine is on 24/7 because it's a company phone, I very rarely use it to make calls outside of work and if I do have to make a call I mostly do it in the car for privacy.

If I get an email or a text it vibrates twice for an email and makes no sound, for a text it beeps once.

So yes I have a fruit based phone but I'm not an annoying bellend :)

Quinn periodically goes off on one about people having mobile phones - I assume when a particularly obnoxious person has irritated him on public transport.

I find it best to let him get on with it. ;)
