Engine will not crank as opposed will not fire and start.
Apart from the obvious:
Flat battery, faulty starter, faulty ignition switch, wrong ignition key, etc.
What other immobilisation considerations are there to prevent the engine from a cranking sequence?
Basics first is best way forward as immobiliser /key would put Code light on (it should come on briefly when ignition is turned on). Immobiliser disables injection system- not starter motor cranking.
Can engine be turned by crank pulley or moved whilst in gear (engine not seized)?
If so, use test lamp or similar to see if starter motor solenoid receives power when ignition key is turned. If it gets power, check high current terminals and wires from battery to starter. Ditto- earth circuit.
If that is good, take a wire direct from battery positive to starter solenoid terminal. If starter cranks, fault is in ignition wiring system. Of not, fault is in starter motor.
Thanks fellas. All good stuff.
Culprit was 20amp fuse number 38 blown. This fuse is in the central locking circuit. By extrapolation I am thinking if there is a problem here, it activates the engine inhibitor-hence no crank.
Appreciate the help. Hope my efforts help someone else.
Happy days !!
