Hi all

I have just bought a brand new Mito after my 147 sadly got to the point where I was spending more time fixing it than actually driving. only thing is I'm having a bit of an issue. I have swapped out the Uconnect system (non-satnav version) for a lovely and much more functional pioneer system with apple car play and all that jazz. I have connected it via a connects 2 cable to keep the steering controls which work a treat. the problem as you might expect is because it's not the factory system the can bus is throwing a wobbly and making the mileage and time on the dash flash and of course, I don't have half the menu items (which are on the Uconnect).

Now I'm not too fussed about the missing menu items as I don't want to turn off the daytime lights, the time being wrong is not an issue as the stereo shows correct time and I don't particularly miss the screen that comes up each time you change modes on the DNA system. The flashing milage, on the other hand, is a little annoying.

So questions, firstly am I correct in thinking a proxy alignment might fix this problem? and if so is there anyone in or around the Canterbury Kent area (don't mind travelling if it's not a million miles away) who has the tools to do this. I would buy the multiscan software but all my gear is apple (except my gaming pc but that's not exactly portable lol). I did ask the dealer but they wanted £70 and said they couldn't guarantee it would work. I don't mind giving a few quid for someone to do it but £70 for an uncertainty is a **** take.

proxy alignment should fix the problem of the flashing odometer, as the previous CAN-bus radio will be deleted .....
This will also cause the menu items that were previously on the standard radio to be transfered to the "normal", standard setup menu

Cool will this affect the steering controls? I have heard tales of the proxy alignment fixing the flashing milage but disabling the steering controls since the car thinks no radio is installed? (sorry, my knowledge of can bus systems is non-existent: :)

You have to care about the steering commands by "yourself" after replacing HU.
i have swapped the original for a sony single din that not has incorporated a can enabled steering control interface... so i have used an external one that converts the signals that the steering wheel spits on the CAN network and convert to resistive protocol for the sony radio.
Same applies for other brands too.
Some mfg also incorporate that function on the radio itself, especially the Chinese made ones.

Btw... dnt know if that applies also to the 2018 models. Maybe... and i say... maybe the car will disable the commands on the can network entirely if the stock radio is removed... but, not sure. On Mito 2016 has worked as in my case (brera '06) for a friend of mine.
We have used converters from an italian company.

Yeh £70 is ridculous, for that money you can buy a good ELM327 and multiscanecu software and do it yourself. Only takes 5 minutes.

Hi how do you do a proxy alignment i have the same thing after a new DDHU ?
Still looking for someone who has the multiscan software and lead. I only have macs so can't do it myself. I would like to get the alignment done so am still looking for someone who can help but in the meantime, I've got used to the milage flashing. it doesn't really affect anything to be fair

Ok so I do at last have an update on this. I did manage to find a local Alfa specialist (non dealer) who was kind enough to have a look and attempt a proxy alignment they quoted £35 if it worked which compared to the dealers £70 regardless of if it worked is not too bad.

Unfortunately, they couldn't do it. it seems that despite the engine code etc being correct the software just keeps saying it can do the alignment because a unit is missing (this being the original stereo). we had a chat and the guy called up a mate who works at the main dealer and it seems that on the new cars (mine is a 68 plate) the radio is part of the security system so it doesn't like when you change it. basically, it seems that if I want to use my aftermarket stereo I have to put up with flashing milage (very small sacrifice for apple car play and a larger much more responsive touchscreen). A word of warning to anyone swapping out stereos on new alfas Always keep the original head unit (I have). You will need this to change the time and if you ever need a new key coded for the car. apparently the dealer cant code a new key unless the original head unit is present because as mentioned it is part of the security system. at least this is what ive been told. if anyone finds info to the contrary please do let me know.

what year is yours? mine didn't have a black box it just had the stereo see attached
Ok, so another update. The problem is fixed :) after a bit of searching I found an info adaptor cable (connects 2 CTUAR01) it wasn't exactly cheap but it has stopped the milage from flashing. this cable also puts all of the settings from the original radio onto the aftermarket one while also retaining steering wheel controls which is great. as an added bonus the voice button now activates Siri (never used to do this with the basic steering wheel adaptor). So problem solved :)
