I've done a genuine 163 in Germany in the GT, heavily laden en-route Blighty from the Mille Miglia in 2008.

I've also done the same in my last Brera.

The GT felt scary on lift off when I was bearing down on a Porsche:eek:

The Brera felt completely unflustered:wow:

Did 139 in the Brera at Bruntingthorpe some weeks back. It felt as if I was doing 70!!

Here's a question; what's more impressive, having a speedo go to 200 but knowing you'll never reach it or having a speedo that goes to 160 and going past it with the dial?

:)
My Dad had an old Peugeot 504, and he used to do the 'Embarrassing Dad' trick of demonstrating "200mph backwards", as the Jaeger speedo didn't have a bottom post, and you could wind the dial backwards to read 200mph when reversing.

Much more embarrassing than impressive

The latter - I had a Calibra Turbo 4x4 that went off the scale :D I did lose my licence that year though, not impressive

Many years ago I maxed out a rental F360 a couple of times, but unfortunately did not manage to observe the indicated KPH at the time  ...too busy watching the road ahead thru blurred peripheral scenery. (Official Top speed: 186 mph / 299 km/h).

However the most impressionable part of the experience was backing off from max', braking and blipping down a couple of times to what felt like a walking pace, only to realise that the speedo' was reading around 180kph, and I was still passing other traffic as though they were standing still.

At this point I realised that it would be pointless to own such a car for regular road use... Far better to own something like the 147 GTA which has a very satisfying but far more roadable performance. :)

However the Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 presses all my buttons, and I would love to experience it first-hand (the noise alone is totally organic!)

The Brera reads to 160 but, mapped at least, it'll go past this.

The GT reads to 180 but I reckon a smidgen over 165 is doable in a standard but well fettled example.
