A while ago, a mate told me that he had noticed an 08 plate 147 GTA. I didn't doubt that he had seen the car....he's an absolute car nut, and can tell a GTA from a regular 147 from a mile off. He also knew that they were only produced for a limited time. Anyhow, I didn't think much more of it......until I saw the same car yesterday. It's definitely a regular plate, and as it's illegal to make a car appear newer than it is by use of a DVLA bought plate it had me a bit stumped. I wish I could remember the plate as then I could HPI it.

Has anyone else seen such a late registered model??

It's more thaqn likely a selespeed, there were a few of them for sale a few years ago, from that malaysian fiasco I think, bogwoppit on here had one of the 156 GTA Selespeeds form the same shipment. :)

Same happened with last off the line rovers. A fair few cars, especially with dodgy colour combos don't find buyers or get lost in storage for a while.

Lots of car makers ship in a batch of cars and then store them at old airfields etc. Until a matching order comes in. I had a late 2003 registered Foat Stilo Abarth which had a build date in early 2002. So spent 18 months in limbo.

Some unregistered rover cars were sold in batches at auction and took upwards of 3 years to get registered.

Problem is the car has tax liability in relation to reg date, not build date. So later GTAs will get hit on the £450+ tax bill rate.

PS some while ago there was an unregistered Ferrari F40 on pistonheads for POA. Bet that was a few quid!

Cheers for the replies chaps:thumbs:

If I see it again I'll make a note of the reg so that I can HPI it to get a fuller description.

As above there were a handful of very late Selespeed cars which turned up in Spring 2008 freshly registered, I know as this is when I purchased my car and they were on sale at the same time for about £16-£18K I recall.

I didn't go for one - as low mileage but earlier registered GTA's were more prominent then and the '2008' cars would have still been built approx. 2005 at the latest - leaving them sat on old belts/fluids/consumables etc. for three years.

I also heard a rumour they were cars originally built for the Far Eastern market.

The late selespeed cars were intended for Malaysian market, but sat stored in a warehouse for years due to a change in tax laws before heading to the UK shores. There was also a batch of 166 3.0 Sportronics. You are correct that they will be around 2005 build.

The cars were sold through dealers such as Monza Sport and Veloces - As I understand it they received a full service prior to delivery including fresh belts and fluids.

The 156 GTA Selespeeds are listed - http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/alfa_romeo_156_v6_24v_gta_selespeed
