Was wondering what to expect from my car. I hear these cars are now built to last longer than previous alfas and the one I just bought looks to be in perfect working order still after 1 week (no hidden surprises from the dealer as of yet) I know the car is due a service but apart from the usual car probs what are the main things to keep an eye out for, or the main issues with the gt 1.9 jtd. My last car was an astra 2.2 coupe and I was propper peed off with all the electrical probs I payed out on abs pumps speedo problems car cutting out all time ........ And on and on. What have I bought into u all seem quite helpfull

I'd advise you to check for smoke / lack of power which would mean a dead turbo hose.

Also, a hard clutch mean the clutch mechanism's dead, even though it can be hard to spot (still haven't figured it out on mine as I can't compare it to another)

Last but not least because expensive, check for play in the door handle, if it has some, lubricate the mechanism and be nice to it, otherwise,

Just look after it and make sure it has regular oil changes to keep the turbo nice and healthy. Also (as I am sure you know) the cambelt and water pump needs doing every 60k or 4 years. Dual mass flywheels will normally last 100k +

Overall they are great all rounders.

p.s fitting a silicone lower turbo hose is also a must - on ebay or just give me a call

I think the car was trying to save you from the cost of her shopping trip!

Check the main ABS fuse in the morning.
