I've browsed around British workshops for a main dealer servicing prices but can't find any sites that actually does present any figures, the next step would obviously to contact someone, but thought I might ask here aswell.

The reason i'm asking is since in Sweden, where i'm from, the pricing for the 2,4 JTD cambelt change is ridiculous, about £1600 since the main dealer service workshop manual states that the engines has to be lifted out of the car for the service.

I've checked around, for example on the alfaworkshop.co.uk site and other independent that all seem to change both belt and waterpump without lifting out the engine.

I'm there for curious about what instructions the UK main dealer service workshops have. (the pricing might give a hint on whether the engine is lifted from the car or not)

Any one knows the price?

I was quoted £379 at a local (ish) independant Alfa specialist in Lytham. Ferdi's Garage.

Little Italian guy who pretty much only works on Italian cars. He has some real beauties in sometimes.

The quote included Camblet, water pump and coolant change. No oil change as the car was serviced this month, but getting the cambelt done in March.

May ask him to price up the aux belt change too whilst he's at it. Infact, might ask for this

- Tensioners
- water pump
- PAS belt

- PAS fluid change form red (BAD) to Green (GOOD)

Oh, and I was quoted about £620 for the cambelt and water pump service at a different garage that has only ever had a 2.4 jtdm drive past before.

The £379 seems a bit cheap :S

just the labour on mine was ~£260

Autodata quotes 7.55 hours to do the [email protected]£120 for labour => ~£16 p/h...i think hes underestimated the job (loads of people ive spoken to did)

Around the £450 mark seems to be a more realistic estimate...

and people who've never done it before who just blindly look up the job time will quote £600ish...i had that too lol

"Autodata quotes 7.55 hours" which is based on the Alfa workshop method which is "remove engine from car".
The independents will use the much simpler technique of removing one of the engine mounts. which will halve the time.
This is why Dealers will quote £1600+ for a cambelt change, whilst a reputable independent will quote nearer to £400-£500.

And for the OP, UK main dealers have the same workshop instructions as the ones in Sweden, ie "remove engine from car".

LOL

i wouldn't trust veloces as far as you can throw them! £255 barely covers labour

(also they royally screwed up my mums alfa which was "maintained from new" by them....looks like it never had an oil change which has damaged the hydraulic lifters)

Do a search for my thread where i detailed exactly my gripe with them...

but from an un-biase point of view...£255 is not a plausible price :tut:

EDIT: here it is:

Thanks all, and specially FX_monkey for all the answer about the authorized workshops using the same instructions in UK as in Sweden. The next I would like to know from this knowledge, knowing that the independent workshop can do it for a 3:rd of the price, will the authorized one also change it the same way?

It's a pain, you need to jack the engine up and down to get the engine mount bolts out, but you don't have to take the engine out or the subframe off or anything major.

I'm confident that he know's what he's doing. He only works on Italian cars. Propper Italian car specialist. Little old Italian chap. Mamma Mia, and all that!

Just had mine done which was £425 just for the cam belt...but also had the following done at the same time..Tensioners, water pump, PAS belt, Aux belt, oil change and was £550 in total from an Alfa specialist located at Brands Hatch, Kent. Was quoted at least £1,200 from a main dealership.

Wow that is very good I thought mine was a bargin, but I think I am going to stick with this garage because it is right next to my work.

was your £1,200 quote including a service?

I am amazed how much prices can vary from different Alfa Romeo franchises.
