Hi all,

I've noticed an oil leak on my phase 1 1996 spider.

It appears to be from between the engine block and cylinder head, though not sure. It drips down on to the heat shield - any idea what it could be? I will post some photos.

Any help appreciated! Thanks!

What he said, they harded over time and begin to crack.

Cost about £15 and is a 15 min job.

You will need to remove the coil packs and leads but the plugs can stay in.

You will need either a Ribe bit, or a Torx bit can be persuaded to fit (T40 I think)

Is the oil pouring out between engine and gearbox? Does the top end rattle when you restart engine ? With mine there's a core plug behind flywheel and it let oil out :depressed:

Hi Italian & rosso,

I don't think so - seems to be coming from under the cam cover and drips on to the exhaust heat shield. I have attached a couple more photos. Did you get to the bottom of what was happening with yours?

When you replace the gasket, take care not to over tighten the screws especially on the corners. It's easy to fracture the alloy.
