I'm calling it a rebuild thread as I'm basically going to rebuild the car to its former glory. Nothing like you've ever seen before.:cheese: So no full body stripping and bare metal respray here!

I'm going to take my time and update this thread as I go along.

Done so far.

Engine has been opened up and what needed replacing has been replaced. Not much really, just head gasket and water pump etc.

I want to balance the propshaft as all components are new-ish but it still vibrates.
Timing needs to be set for this altitude.
K&N filters needs to be cleaned...anyone have any K&N cleaner lying around?
Water return bottle needed.

Plans.
15" or 17" BBS wheels or GTV 6 wheels...can't decide.
GTV 6 torsion bars with Koni yellow shocks all round.
Complete interior retrim or 156 leather seats in front and retrim at the rear.
I've got new lights and indicator lenses just looking for new rear light clusters.
Complete recarpet of boot and interior.
New bonnet and boot lid.
Respray the bumpers and the side skirts.
Take out the dents in the doors.
Decide to cut out the rust and respray that panel only or...
New steering rack. Rian talk to me.

My aim is to re-build the car to its reliable and drivable state it was in 2 years ago. I'm not looking for period correct parts or to build a concourse car, just an OEM+ stunner that's low and cruises well...

It won't take alot of money, the wheels and suspension bits will probably be the most expensive.

Attached are some pics of the car.

Never bargain on a re-build being cheap Lance.... I did, and the reality of what things cost then set in..... simple things like re-spraying to a good standard is expensive...... odds and ends, consumables, it all adds up.

Rather set aside a budget that is too high, you can always use money saved on other things, but if you start committing to the car, and you run out of money, the project could end up being a waste..... by the time you get enough money again, things you did may need to be re-done again.....

allow enough time too..... at least a year in your case, with family and work....

Oh yes, congrats on the new little one, hope you , missus and big sister are all well....

and good luck with the re-build.... shout if you need help. I am in Secunda this weekend

Never did a re-build, probably never will, but that..what you said there, is what I'm afraid of, and that's a sin, a tragedy in fact, would not want that in my life again, not if I can help it. But I applaude those that do...rebuilds that is.

We can talk, but u will first need to come look at my giulie to see whats what she is looking good already, just waitng for motor to be built, I have also now decided to do OEM+ WITH COILOVERS and the belly on the ground, camber in front and 13 inches but 8 inch wide with stretched tyres. I can maybe swop u some spares and a cash adjustment for those 14 inch wheels if u gonna go with different rims,

the bodywork is gonna be your biggest expense, try get a bonnet and bootlid soonest as they getting scarce.
Rear tail lights are now almost impossible to find at any cost.
Everything else u mentioned is very do-able
The one recomendation would be not to go for 17inch wheels or bigger, for the simple fact that u will never get the car really LOW on 17s, if u wanna go low then stick to 15s

Thanks Eric. But a couple of things that I'm going to do different that why I said its unlike what you've ever seen. I don't have a budget. I just know what I want done. The respray will come last quite honestly. I know it totally backwards but do you know me as a forwards thinking guy lol?

My plan is to buy one or two things each month...I like the way I modified the GTi, I did something each month as opposed to doing it once off.

I'm already buying the steering wheel this month and the waterbottle and the steering rack...Also busy with a deal on some retro 15" wide wheels.

But thanks for the advice I'll be in touch with you and Frostie who've done this already...

But my aim as mentioned earlier is not to do a complete full restoration, rather just a re-biuld of whats needed to get the car to top shape, not pristine shape...pristine shape will include a respray and not just any respray!

Oh, before I forget, drop JacquesL a PM, he is probably the best guy on here with 116 series Guiliettas..... he will definitely be able to tell you what is worth doing, what is practical, and what is not.... his grey Guilie is one of the best I have ever seen..... you know the car too

Adjustable?

15k is the price dude! But JOH!

I was thinking the 4k for the Koni yellows and have the springs made to specification with the GTV 6 torsions and maybe stronger sways.

We have a set of original Maserati Biturbo narrow and wide rims in the shop if one of you are interested.
4 stud 14’s obviously. If I remember correctly the fronts are 7 and the rears are 8 wide but i will have to confirm that.
They are extremely light.

Looks like this.
I always thought they would suit a Giulietta perfectly.
Probably why we stored them safely.

Wouldn’t mind having the car it belonged to.

Drool! What a car TN!!! Those wheels would look hot, the Euro scene uses Ronal wheels which looks similar and they seem to go mad over them!

The BBS wheels will look hot too! They will be close to R20K. I tried for some about 3 years back and they wouldn't even import them unless I paid up front!
