hello there,

i hope somebody can give me a pointer here...

I have been tarting up my 16v to go into the sud when its painted, i will pull it apart next year maybe when i get more time / cash , so for now its just had cam belts / water pump / paint and clean up..

what im not sure about is the front pulley, i know the 16v one is to long to clear in a sud, and i have read that a lot of people use a sud pulley, only thing is it does not seem to locate very well on the front of the crank,.. the 16v pulley has a collar that slides over the crank but the sud one does not,.. i am thinking of cutting the collar from the 33 16v one and grating onto the sud one.... is that over kill?? has anybody else had this problem ? :confused:

ps .. motorman manifolds will fit, .. but do need a bit of tinkering.. but a lot easier than making your own !!! :)

Mate dont even go with the sud pulley.

I just cut the third channel of the 33-16v pulley and used it on my Sprint ! That third channel is used originally on the 33 for the a/c belt.
Very simple, very safe.
I dont like the idea of messing where the timing belts go :tut:

Don't cut a ring of the 16v-pully
the pully has some rubber ring in it, acting as a vibrationdamper for smoother running orso
if you start messing with the pully, it won't stay in one piece for long

i know a guy who raced a 33 with a 16v oncarbs, and he cut the pully because he didn't want it to be so wide as he didn't use his powersteering anymore, but on the testrun on the rolling road, the puly broke in pieces, causing a cambelt to jump a few teeth over and destroying 8 valves

best thing you can do is take a pullycentre of the 16v, and the single pully of a sud or non powersteering33 and weld the 16v centre in that.

I too have heard horror stories of having the 16v pulley cut down and there being some rubber inside, I got mine machined down (although I couldn't see any evidence of rubber) and then spoke to a few people who said what 'graffiaturo' said. I am just going to go to an engineering/machine shop and give them my cut down 16v one and ask the to make a copy from solid metal.

ok, here's what i did....

take sud front pulley, clean up rust
get 16v pulley and saw off the section that locates over the crank,
line up section in with sud pulley.. the both have same size hole centre..
21mm impact socket makes a very good jig to hold it
take weld with mig welder, stick it on lathe to make sure its all spins true,
weld it properly, use lathe to tidy it up :O)

sits on their nice now :O)

if anybody wants i can take a picture before i bolt it on

I had a small washer made which centralised the sud pulley and the inner pulley washer on to the crank. What you have to be careful of is that nothing bottoms out before the nut is tight. Other one to be careful of is that the rear cam belt guide washer doesnt get forced over the nose of the crank when you tighten the crank nut up. Again I had some washers made that filled out the cambelt pulleys so it could all be clamped up tight.
