After many false starts, I have finally gotten around to sorting out my 166's smoking habbit. The car was down on power, stuttering and producing way more than the usual Alfa white smoke. It had to be done. I have never gone this far into the engine. Have done the timing belt alright but this was a new low!!!

When the head finally came off, it was definately the head gasket that was the culprit with a number of blown parts to it so at least all the effort was worth it! Now to get the head skimmed and pressure tested before trying to reassemble it (minus the few bits that are always left over in a situation like this :p )

So this is how the car looks now.......

It looks like I will have to also get the valve stem seals done as well. Does anyone have any recommendations for getting the head skimmed in Dublin?

Is there anything else I should look at replacing while I have the engine like this?

Off the top of my head (pardon the pun) you'll need new head bolts.
Maybe someone who really knows might advise you before putting it all back together again...
BTW I've a few bits still for a 166TS (I need to downsize!)
Also plenty of trim etc if there's anything you need...
