Few weeks ago I watched this headlight restoration video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm-Q8qQDi9g

I noticed he painted it black, but felt sad because couldn't see how they looked on the car.
I asked if I could get some pics, he told me that he would get in touch with the owner and see if he could get them.
Today I got the answer, with a lot of pics. Man, that look is awesome, gorgeous!

Thats my Alfa, I have posted some photos in other threads. Don't know how much I agree with someone posting them online without permisson (they were ment to be private). You could have asked bofore doing that. You don't need to remove them or anything, but it would be a right thing to ask, and I would gladly say yes.

They are also fitted with new projectors, which improved light output immensely. Although the headlights were done by RFL, I had to repair their work as headlight were leaking and one was not properly assembled, plus some other minor issues. They work well now, although I think one might be leaking again, but I will have to investigate that some more.

That looks absolutely brilliant!!

Never seen this mod done to a 166 before! Totally transforms the look! Much more aggressive, had the 166 GTA ever came into production, they obviously would have been equipped with these standard! :smoker:

Of course I would have asked, but how?
I received the photos but without any source information, I would have done if I knew.
Since I (a totally unknown person to you) got the pics from the retrofitlab guy, I thought it would be ok to post them on one of the best alfa forum, it would help 166 owners, without harming you in any way. Sorry if I did anything that disturbed you.
I had searched for blackened 166 headlights and never found anything.
I wouldn't try first and see later! ;)
Anything you want me to do at the pics just tell me. I have also posted them on a Spanish alfa forum, we are very few on the 166 section, every little bit helps...

Thanks for telling the light output results, mine are pretty burned and the light is like two strong candles, now I'll definitely do the mod.

As I've said it is not a problem, but I would appreciate if I were asked before posting them (through retrofit lab guy called Wouter would be ok :)). It is what it is now, it seems people like the results ;)

Although I am not 100% sure that they indeed look better on the car (on the photos yes, but in real life, its hard to say). When I was deciding if I should go for the black headlights or not I came across only one photo of 166 with them. And I did not really like it - they were full black and it looked a bit empty and dull. So I asked retrofitlab if they can paint everything except rings around xenon projectors and high beam flashers, so it turned out pretty good in the end. But by far the best thing its light output, so for that reason alone it was worth it.
I also mounted daytime running leds (they turn on when I start the car) where fog lights used to be, so my whole interior doesn't light up when driving during the day and it also preservers new projectors, xenon bulbs and xenon ballasts, since most of the time you drive during the day anyway, and in my country it is mandatory to use light during the day.

If anyone needs any help when doing that just ask in this thread and I will help.

Hi Lizard.

I'm also interested to change the fog lights into daylight LED. Which kit did you use?

I've got them in Conrad, they are round 70mm (just like OEM fog lights) and each have 4 individual LEDs in them and came with certificate/EU homologation, payed something under 100€. They are a bit to bright for my taste, but the other option was Hellas DRLs, which are way more expensive. All others had to big diameter to fit on 166.
