Hi,
Looking for some advice from your collective knowledge. A lot of this has been said before but not sure on the next steps.
A couple of weeks ago the car started to just lose some urgency, subtle at the beginning, but by the end it had no useful acceleration of any consequence. It then started to run on less than 6 cylinders, probably down to 4 in the end!
So at the beginning l went through the ECU reset to no effect, l removed the MAF and it made no difference, there was a small split in the flexi hose so repaired that with self amalgamating tape and that made no difference either.
Then last week l limped home with no acceleration at all until 5000rpm but clearly missing on one cylinder. Took to the local garage who have looked after both my 166s. Their view was afterr discussion they would start with plugs and coil packs but couldn't look at the car until late next week. So got my spanners out took off the plenum and replaced the plugs. After that it started but ran very rough, to be honest it sounded as if it is going to destroy itself. Turned off and then wouldn't start. So stripped it down again, 90 min start to finish, checked evrything all OK but this time swapped the coil packs back to front. It then restarted but again sounds like bag of nails on self destruct.
So next steps me thinks some new/used coil packs to swap about and check if that is the problem.
Any advice greatly received?
