I've done a search on the forum, but can't find it: what is the recommended interval for changing the cambelts on a 166 3.0 litre?

I think Alfa used to say every 5 years or 72k miles and I believe the 3.0 litre engine seems to be ok at that but many TS and the GTA are failing well before that and Alfa are recommending 3 years or 36k miles for some engines.

I'd do it every 3 years or 36k miles, whichever comes first. I just had a narrow escape, after 3 years and 40k miles there was a 4-5 mm cut on the belt.

alfa claomed 72,000 miles or 72 months, the accepted maximum though is 60,000 or 60 months. vmy 166 had its belt changed at 60,000 / 60 months with no issue, although the 3.2 / GTA needs it sooner. the 3.0 and 2.5 will be fine to 60k/60 months

never hurts to change early if you can afford it though.

According to dealers here, the Alfa recommendation now is 36,000 miles, even for the V6s. There have been plenty of V6 failures at 35K-40K, so I don't agree that...
the 3.0 and 2.5 will be fine to 60k
I'm surprised that manufacturers are allowed to continually claim that their new cars can run to high mileages on a belt, then retract that later and end up with something around half the mileage! It happens all the time and it's a serious additional cost to bear.
