from looking at the ones i sold i dont think your meant to get inside them. theres no screws that i could see. unlike for instance on the 155

i've look at the manual but that goes as far as removing the mirror from the door.

best of luck

I had same problem on my 166 but not sure if the set up is same on 164. Since the motor is running then it is likely to just be the actual wing mirror is loose - tighten the screw / allen head underneath the mirror as this makes sure it is sitting down on a small lug which actually creates the movement. It is easy to take off wing mirror - just remove the plastic cover on inside of car (one allen head screw), then there are 2 / 3 allen bolts inside frame. Once everything is put back tight, it will be fine. I think car washes knock the stuffing out of them and also if you use it regularly then it comes a bit loose.

Hope this is of some help but I really dont know the set up on 164.

Good luck

I have this vision of a stripped worm gear on the end of the motor shaft or the geared bit it engages with.

I think the mirror pivots start seizing, which in turn overloads the gears.

There was some info on an American site about a small lever in the corner of the mirror, behind the glass but protruding. Can't see anything like this on mine.

The problem with complete removal from the door, is the wires!

Can't hurt to spray copious amounts of WD40 in, just in case is sticking.

Thanks all, especially niallmorgan.

I have had a look at the site but can't expand the pictures!! My computer comes up with 'error on page'! Typical! I'll have another look tonight. Thanks anyway.

No, still no good!
Pictures too small and not enough angles to get any clues.

thanks for the thought

Dougie166,

Is there a possibility that you could download the mirror pictures and send them to me, please?

Dougie166,

Thanks for trying. Going direct to the site, produces the same results.

I'll ask someone at work to have a go at enlarging them.

thanks
