Well got the replacement gearbox - thanks to this site - What a nightmare trying to find one! So the car is back on the road and I am looking forward to giving it plenty of use. I also intend to sort out a few niggles that I should have sorted before.

I'm still working on mine, have been since the summer:eek: ,looks like I have to renew all the brake pipes and I've sheared off one of the bleed nipples on the rear calipers:cry: ,I'm itching to get mine back on the road but it looks like I'm too busy with work over the next couple of weeks.:(

Lee, Good to hear your motor is sorted. I suppose that means that your Recaros won't be on the market real soon. BTW my 164 is off the road again as the timing belt has jumped a tooth again. It appears that the usual culprit ( rear bank inlet cam) has jumped forward which seems impossible but it has. Ho Hum

Who is setting the belt tension up? When I had mine I quizzed BLS Alfa Romeo Specialist BLS Automotive about this and they said that properly set up its usually not a problem, though they do get them in from time to time with jumped belts. I've always thought the rear bank inlet cam does not have enough 'belt wrap' round the cam pulley, and that the jump occurs on starting the car. I've no proof of this though..just a guess.

Either way its a b*gger:( hope you get it sorted.

He (my dad) set it up himself to what seemed right at the time for the belt. Not using any special tools though. Perhaps the belts stretch over the first few thousand miles and need re-tensioning...bit of a mystery for us but no real (financial) damage done. It seems this early style of V6 24v is known for skipping teeth. The later design of the GTA, GT etc is better is there is more wrap on the rear exhaust pulley, however its very similar on the rear intlet:confused:

Yes hope to make the next meet.
I did think about getting rid of it but just couldn't do it and couldn't think of anything to replace it. So the seats are staying put!
Still a few thins to sort - the brake lights seem to be playing up now so I am hoping it is just the switch on the pedal.

Lee, My 164 is now sorted. I realise now that I had not tensioned the cam belt properly - it is very tricky. Anyway I just started it and it is now sweet as the proverbial nut. So that's 2 164s back on the road which is jolly good thing.

Thanks for the replies.
Glad to hear your cars sorted too Doug.
I took the brake pedal switch apart tonight and gave it a clean, it seems to be working ok now I just hope it stays that way.
