Hello,
I am in need of a replacement key for a 159 and would like to know what options I have.
Can a used key be reprogrammed?
If not where can I buy a new one online for a reasonable price?
Any other options?
Thank you in advance.

I've been meaning to ask the same question. Is a re-programme possible?

I was quoted something like £260 for a new one from a main dealer.

Dandy, I dont believe they are. A blank key is paired to the car and once done the key is fixed. Bit like the mercedes ones and similar price too. The ones you see on ebay are only good for the case, thats why the seller claims no responsibility or denies any knowledge.

Just to add a note to this, wish I'd searched here first.

I need a spare key, but after buying a key on ebay listed as 'just needs to be programmed to the car and the blank cut', I found they are indeed a one shot deal - once programmed to a car, you can't just take them and program them to a different one. It needs to be a new, virgin key to be added.

On top of this, the ebay seller (in Singapore) was a real arse about it and wouldn't even answer communications (polite ones, by the way). I only finally got my cash back after Ebay judged the dispute in my favour. He complained about having to refund and went as far as saying things bought from Ebay were 'sold as seen', effectively saying he believed he had no responsibility for the items he sells.

So I am £52 out of pocket after paying the Alfa dealer to try and code it in.

Moral? Be careful where you buy the keys from.

Is there anyone who copied alfa romeo 159 key? I do not have the slave key. I have only the orijinal one. dealer's price for the replacement key is about 300$...it is really too much...

It will be worse (and more expensive) if you lost your only key. Main dealer here, in Gran Canaria, tried to code a replacement key from another 159 (owner sold his car before the key got here, and never went for it) to my car.

It was impossible. The replacement key is ordered with you VIN number, and it's dispatched from factory with the "internals" coded and key blade cut.

And then, dealer has to match everything in your car.

Hi Gaincho, sorry for a bit of topic, I recently moved to GC, and finally bought my lovely 159 JTDM.

I would love to ask if you can suggest anyone on GC to have a proper check for the car, as well as actual repairs if anything is needed.
I am quite new to the cars, so I am sure it is really easy to fool me =(

Kind Regards,
Alex

Hi, Alex. Welcome here!

Certainly, I cannot recomend anybody here. There is no indie specialist. Main dealer is becoming a good option (some years ago was painful).

I've been taking all my cars to the same garage for the last 6 years. Former mechanic was an Alfa specialist, but he retired a couple of years ago. Now, the guy who runs the garage is quite capable, but he's no specialist in Alfa, just in Bmw (anyway, he's a really good mechanic).

But I suppose you're located in the South of the island, aren't you? I don't know anybody there. There's anothe AO member there, Srthommo, who owns a really good looking white 916 spider, and maybe he can point you into the right direction.

If you wan't the details of my local garage, just tell me and I'll give them to you.

Regards,

Jose

Dear Jose,
Thank you for you kind email. Regarding my location, you are a bit wrong. we were exploring the island and decided to live in Salinetas(Telde), so it might not be painful for me to go to your mechanic! =)

Me and my GF are totally envy to you guys, you were born and living in amazing island!!! =)))) :bandit:

By the way Jose, is there any way to write personal messages in AO forum, so i am not flooding conversations with my off topic! =)

Kind Regards,

Alex

I was quoted £850.00 plus £150.00 for a replacement key from the Alfa dealer in Cardiff. As this would have increased the value of my car by 33% i declined. If anyone can come up with a reasonable cost ( like £300.00) i would be very interested.

It would be good if someone managed to crack this long ongoing problem, a better solution is that AR stop taking the Michael with the replacement costs and show some common sense:ranting::ranting:

I myself have been looking for a new key as second key disappeared. It is virtually impossible to copy original key. Thats why they are so expensive. AR in uk will charge £400 all in which includes the key coming from Italy after you have given them the Vin number and proof of ownership. The key is cut and programmed in Italy. When you collect the key, AR will then marry it to your vehicle. I have tried various AR agents in Belgium and a few in Italy. All places are same price. 400 Eur. If you buy one there with the conversion rate, it works about £352. Unfortunately Ar are not taking the Michael, they are just Greedy!!!
