Hello everyone!
I've just become the owner of a beautiful 159 2009 Quantum Of Solace edition.
Recently while driving on the motorway, i experienced a sudden complete loss in power. Pedal to the floor, no reaction whatsoever. So we stopped and my brother reckoned it could have been a faulty MAF sensor, so we unplugged it, everything seemed fine.
Since then, the sensor had been replaced, and everything was fine and dandy until it occured again. Im pretty clueless at this point since it was the only thing that came to mind, leading to the issue. We reckoned it may have been the ECU, however we have no clue.

If anyone could give us any pointers towards what could be the possible cause of this, such as just another faulty Ebay product, please let me know. Many thanks.

If it's a cheap no brand MaF then that could still be the problem.

You really need to get the car scanned for any trouble codes.

What engine do you have? How many miles on it and what's it's service history been like? Any chance that something was just given a poor repair from the previous owner to be able to sell the car.

Could be throttle position sensor, throttle body etc. Could be anything. Fuse, electrical connection. Get the codes read for starters

Hi mike,
I have the 1.9 16v JTDm. We've scanned for error codes, nothing there, except the bulb which needs to be replaced. Mileage is 114k and the history is good, wasn't a write off. The guy that was selling it was polish, we are too, he said that it was recently serviced, new clutch and you can definitely feel it. The story was he was moving out the country and it was his mates. His mate had it for 4 years. Thats all i know 🤷‍♂️.

First of all, what engine do you have? 1.9 or 2.4 JTDM 16V? Second question, what exactly did you do before you lost power? Quick brake? Change gear up or down? Or you press throttle for acceleration and all of sudden you lost power?
MAF sensor is not common problem for JTDM 159. What we were facing much more frequently is issue with throttle flap body (is on input of intake manifold). Inside body is electronic board and if sealing is not good, oil from tube is leaking to body and literally overfloow electronic board. This will cause unexpected behaviour of flap.
Send strange issue I had was faulty sensor on brake pedal. This sensor activate not only signal for brake lights, but ECU also deactivate input from throttle pedal. Usually you use the same foot for brake and gas pedals, so this is natural that engine is going to idle mode when you press brake pedal. But try to drive a car under constant speed and use second leg to press both pedals at the same time. You will see that engine will lose power, even you are pushing throttle pedal to floor. But this issue started with pressing brake pedal first, sensor did not switched out and kept signaling brake is active even I released brake pedal. Stop car and restart cured this issue for a while everytime. I expected throttle body issue, I changet it by second hand one, but without help.

1.9 16V JTDm. I think we were just cruising, no braking or anything. Holding throttle in one position until we lost power. I understand it may not be common, however when we unplugged it everything was great. I also have the flashing odometer/mileage issue, possibly due to a CANBus error with the ECU. No clue. Currently brother drives it, not me, so i do not have full access to it ATM. Cheers.

What did you use to scan for error codes? You need alfaOBD or multiecuscan. If the odometer is flashing there must be an error code, scan all the modules and do a CAN info to see the module status. If the car lost power then there would almost certainly be a code for that but it may has disappeared if it only happened once. You need to scan for codes immediately.

What do you mean by 'bulb needs replacing' ?

Brother used some OBD scanner, quite an advanced one but not any of the named above. No serious error codes showed, and the bulb i'm on about is just a front light bulb that needs replacing, nothing related to the issue. So far the issue has not reoccured, and i am praying that it stays like this. Wish me luck!

I had loss of power in my 159 2.4 JTDM TI Q4 Sportwagon.

Sudden loss of power was accompanied by strange behaviour of the fuel level indicator going up and down, other flashing lights on the dash including loss of vehicle stability control / ASC, inability to rev, and the engine management light might have come on too. I had no errors reported in Multi ECUscan which confused me for a while.

Turns out it was a short (bare wires) in the engine harness connection to an injector. I bought the Vauxhall injector harness repair kit on eBay and a local garage fitted it. Problem solved and my Alfa was back to it's old 210 bhp self.
