Last Friday, in what my friends think was a moment of insanity, I jumped on a flight to Oslo, bought a 159 JTDm SW, and drove 600 km home on nice winter roads. It was my first serious Alfa experience, and it was surprisingly positive.

When I started driving on snow and ice 25 years ago, it was the weight distribution, suspension geometry and tire quality that kept you on the road. In modern cars I feel that the electronic stability systems have adopted that task (often due to inert responses). The 159 gave me back a bit of the old analogue experience of interpreting the feedback from the car instead of being totally unaware of the conditions until you are "saved" by the systems.

If I can only locate the fuse box for the fuses to the heated seats (supposed to be in the rear left corner somewhere), the 159 will displace my wife's Volvo V70 as my favourite winter car.
