Hi all,

Had my 159 for about 10 weeks now and here's my first 'problem'.

It started about a month after I got it but it was so infrequent then to not cause any concern, but now it's happening almost every time I drive it;

When cruising along at very light load I get a hesitancy/misfire where the car will lurch back and forth as the engine loses and gains power momentarily. This isn't just a short hiccup, but something you can hVe for many minutes under these conditions. Usually happens at about 1500 rpm or thereabouts, can happen in any gear.

However, it's only happening under very light loads. If you lift off completely and coast it's fine. If you accelerate more (even if it's only very light acceleration) then it fine. If you're just maintaining a set speed at a low rpm cruise on a level road (I.e. Very light engine load) then this issue can occur.

Also, it typically occured only during the engine warm-up cycle when the engine is below normal operating temperature. It only ever occurred like this but recently it's started to do it when fully warm aswell.

Is this a known issue ? Any pointers appreciated before it goes back to the main dealer under warranty. Thanks!

there are a few posts related to this issue and in my opinion its related to the egr. Ive installed restrictive egr gaskets and swapped the egr on my 1.9 which has helped reduce the stutter but not eradicated it completely. The only sure way to cure it is to have the dpf egr removed.

If your car is still under warranty then get it back to the garage ;)

Thanks. It will be going back to the dealer as it's at a point now where it's definitely an issue that needs sorting. I was just wondering if this is a known type of issue rather than a mysterious one-off. It appears after searching there are a number of other likely very similar/same issues.

cornclose,

Its definitely the EGR, I had exactly the same hesitation (or sometimes feeling like a petrol engine that was missing) and when the dealer checked airflow levels the EGR was sticking and 'choking' the engine. Repaired at no cost under warranty and AR UK had the old one back.

Mine too.....

Exactly the same issue with my 2.0JTDM Ti but goes as the engine warms up. Good to know Alfa will sort under warranty. I've also got an increasingly noisy exhaust booming on the overrun which I reported at the 21K service but dealer said no fault found which was disappointing and its actually got worse so will have to take it back. Both issues sound related to me.
