hi guys

I am new to ***** ownership having had my lovely 156 V6 for 4 months. I have just completed a 4000 mile trip around Europe during which time the car developed a knocking from the front right suspension. On inspection this turned out to be play in the upper wishbone. The left hand side is fine. My question is this: Do I need to replace all the wishbones if I do one. They all seem to come in a kit hence the question.

Thanks

Upper wishbones rarely cause knocking, more of an annoying creak so be sure that is your problem. There is a school of thought that one should replace both as, if one's gone, the other won't be far behind. Personally, I can't see it.

There is no kit for either upper or lower wishbones, Shop4Parts for example are a reputable supplier if you fancy a go yourself. There a guide at AlfaWorkshop which explains it nicely.

Oh, by the way, it's ALFA

All the best

Not true, if the ball joints go they will knock and badly once they start.
I change upper wishbones as a pair as the the upper ones are easy to do, the lower I change as and when...

If the uppers knock that normally means it the ball joint and that means a whole new wishbone same goes for lower ones. You can get just bushes but these tend to be false economy

thanks for the feedback. Took the wheel off last night and its def the bushes on the upper wishbone that have gone (one actually). So I reckon I will replace that one as there is no movement at all in the opposite suspension. All the ball joints are fine as well.
