My '98 156 has developed a warm/hot misfire, particularly under low engine speed and high load.

No other symptoms and ecuacan is showing no problems (I think ruling out coils) I'm thinking spark plugs, any other likely culprits before I fork out £70?

Thanks

wow, plugs aren't cheap are they!

Unplugged the Maf and that had no effect and it starts fine first time every time (could that rule out the crank sensor)

Is it possible to get coil pack problems that don't show on the ECU?

Sorted, it was very difficult but simple:)

Spent £85 on spark plugs, then when I took the cover off the first 2 were full of water, took out and cleaned the first one then went to tame out the 2nd one to find it broken off at the screw insert!

Had to hammer a bolt through the insert with everything crossed then backed it out. Cleaned up and replaced with a new one and it's running better than it ever has.

Then got £74 refund on my other new plugs as it already had good condition Ngk platinums in.

Very happy all round and fuel consumption about 10% better too. Must have been faulty the whole time I've had the car.
