adding to the litany of minor, irritating issues that augment the list of serious, annoying problems............

I've now got a weird sound in the cabin

not from the dash - not obviously so anyway

sounds like a watch being wound every now and then

only happens in the car - so I don't think it is me

anyone had anything similar

Does it sound like a hard drive while accessing data?

I have this sort of sound, may be the same as yours but NO idea what the heck it is. Don't always hear it.

One of the heater flap motors????

Sounds like it, one of the actuator motors that controls the air direction.

If you turn the AC completely off (fan as well) you will find out!

Possibly its the air recirculating valve (or somehting, can't remember exact name) , it makes a tick noise about every second for a short while but only very occasionally.
There are loads of posts on this (the word charcoal might be a keyword, or search for threads with tick in the title?)

Nothing to worry about if its just that, its not that loud.
Post a sound clip if you have a phone that records sound easily.

It normally happens for me (on the odd times it happens) at idle in traffic so shouldn;t be too life endangering to capture the sound.

Cheers,
TB

cheers Guys - on the way in to work I experimented with the heater controls and every time I changed the fan speed or temp the sound was constant for a couple of seconds before resuming the intermittent sound

does sound very much like an actuator

thanks for the answers (and apologies for not searching in advance)
