Hi chaps,

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on a squeak I get every time I turn the steering wheel! All I can describe the noise as is when you wear trainers on a wooden gym floor and they squeak!

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Low fluid level I would describe as more of a 'groan'

Any chance of a recording?

It's the alternator belt or what used to be called the fan belt - basically the belt that drives the alternator, AC and power steering pump.
Nope, as above it's ONLY when you turn the steering wheel.

Power steering pump or bushes have been mentioned as a possible cause?

Defo a squeek though?

Sounds like it's something else that is 'dry' within the setup, so bushes sounds correct

Mines got a similar type of annoying squeek. It happens when turning a corner at low speeds but not actually when moving the steering wheel itself. Sounds like it's coming from inside the cowling behind the steering wheel and is alot louder without the cowling fitted but still impossible to pin point. I'm getting so annoyed with that today I took it to a well known Alfa specialist who doesn't even know what it could be but suggested that it might be from a sqeeky steering joint. It's so noisey I'm suprised no one else has had the problem and actually found a cure for it!

I got mine sorted.......the mechanic pricked a small hole into the runner housing that covers the joint where it meets the other components and sprayed in some silicon to lubricate the joint......hey presto, no more squeaks!
