Hi

i was wondering if any one can shed some light on this matter,.

i got a alfa romeo 156 ts selespeed, 2000 plate (w) 2.0ltr
been driving normal, and one day i switched off the car, and went to the shop,. came back start up the engine, and it wouldnt start,.???

i tried few times, , but after 30-45 mins (of trying avery now n then) it came back alive....?
this had happen 3 times already.

i thought it might be the spark plugs, so i went and got them change , due to the fact it has never been changed and its reached 81k mileage.

so having thought this had fixed my problem. i went driving normally......
the same problem happend to me yesterday and today...

i remember the garage guy telling me do i have a immoboliser? i wasnt sure.,.but he said it could be that,

i was thinking about it,,, but thought if it was the immoboliser, then surely i would have to switch the alarm on,,,,and leave it,, then switch it bk off,.,.,.,.all time the car didnt start up, i had the alarm off, and i was siiting in the car.

so i scratch that idea.

basically,. i am asking for some guidance ....on what it might be?/

please help,

and thanks in advance,

Crank sensor.
They fail when hot, then work again when cooled.

You need a new one.

Your crank position sensor is faulty also know as fly wheel sensor and a few more to boot, not expensive parts and labour about £50 all in... They suffer heat soke and stop working when they get hot...
£85 at Alfa dealer  But those are the symptoms.

Don't go flying in to replace the crank sensor straight away, though it most probably is that, first though can you answer this,

Does the CODE light come on and extinguish 2 seconds later when you turn the key?

If it remains lit then it is the immobiliser causing it and most probably just corrosion on the relay terminals infront of the battery, this is no biggie, just pull the relays out in turn and clean the pins on them and refit them, be aware that they are different part numbers and it's best not to swap them round if you don't know what your doing.

Next, under the passengers seat is a fuel cut off switch, this is the power to the fuel pump,

so when you turn the key do you hear a whirring noise from behid you?

If not then podge the button on top of the switch to reset it.

But as with everyone else, it probably is the crank sensor.

does the engine managemnt light come on when the car faisl to start?

if yes, the most likely its the crank sensor

if the immobiliser is staying active it could be a odgey antenna connection.

i did a thread how to fix this issue
