The 159 replaces the 156 but they're very different cars. Both look great, but there it ends. 159 more solid, better built; 156 lighter and some say better handling. Choose please, folks...

I've not driven the 159.

What's the 159 based on?

Despite being a big fan of Giugiaro I find the 159 and Brera too aggressive, too hard edged and chiseled. I like the softer lines of the 156.

I think the best aspect of the 159/Brera is the headlights which remind me of another Giugiaro design, the ISO Grifo.

i like my 156 and couldent justify the cost of a 159 yet, also extra tax cost on >2001 cars
my 98 v6 is better on the tax
and i love the way it drives, i think if i was to go to a bigger car i would get a pre 2001 166 v6 rather than a 159, although the 159 is a very nice car i like my 156 too much to change at the moment :D

this is unusual for me as before my v6 i had a 156 ts which i only replaced due to cambelt failiure
before that i never kept a car longer than 6 months before getting bored with it and moving on (a long list fiat pandas ford fiestas, sierra xr4x4, mondeo si, peugeot 306 s16, 405td, 205 roland garros, citroen xantia, etc. etc. came before)

i think if i ever change cars again in the near future i would get another 156 v6 or gta

I've had both - a couple of 156s and a 159. I had a 159 1.9jts petrol and I really think that it is the wrong engine to have. The car however is superb. I would really, really have to go for a big engined one, petrol or diesel.

Every time I see the front of a 159 I want one.

Every time it goes past and I see the rest of the car, I decide the 156is better looking after all.

I think the 156 is better proportioned, and i prefer the 'sportier' looks of the earlier model too.

For the same money you obviously get a lot more 156 than you get 159 because they are older. With a fixed budget of say £20k, you could get a very good 159, or a 156 GTA and get it taken to 350bhp, sort the handling and suspension etc, and so obviously this would be my choice of action

well, because:

156 is much cheaper (main reason)
is more compact
better looks (1st version or facelift), but that’s only my opinion
156 still has a TS (100% italian) engine

159 still is a gorgeous. it really stands out from everywhere.

I had a 156 for seven years, but I've only had the Brera for two. It's all about achieving balance! :p

Do not like the 159 that much(not the looks nor the driveability), so the 156, prefferably in the GTA form, is my favorite so far.
