Afternoon,

Can anyone confirm if you can weld an exhaust manifold? Mine appears to be leaking right where the tube meets the flange, near the heat shield mount.

Alternatively what are my options? Any tubular manifolds without the two cats available?

Manifolds tend to be cast and so hard to weld.

The earlier CF2 cars didnt have any cats in the manifold although don't know if it will fit and you'll have an issue of what to do with the lambda sensor.

Tubes are welded to the flanges as standard so should be weldable with the right kit. I assume the OP's car is a CF2 without the cats in the downpipe, so no issue with the lambda......?

Ive welded a couple of the cf2 manifolds for my pre-decat on my cf3 147 using a tig welder, pretty easy.
Alternatively the cf2 manifolds can be picked up on ebay for less than £30:thumbs:

Afternoon,

Finally got round to removing my manifold to find the bracket behind the 2 cats was broken causing more stress on the manifold. I have now welded the manifold and bracket so its all ready to go back together.

Can anyone confirm if there is meant to be a gasket between the manifold and down pipe? There wasn't one in place when i removed the manifold but want to check if there is meant to be one.

You can get gaskets ( you mean the manifold to down pipe joint yes? ) but the 2 I've had just had exhaust paste between them but might be worth investing in a gasket. I think there are 2 a 4 bolt and a 5 bolt so check first

Never trust fleabay ... try a local auto factor ... possibly ECP, but more likely an independent chain who are more likely to want to spend a bit of time looking for you. Or your local exhaust specialist ... again, independents are more likely to be willing to help.

I will give the local factors a call. I have done a number of google searches for Alfa specialists but none show the gasket that i need. I put the ebay link to show an image of the only gasket that i could find so far....

As you've spoken about Cats, then you have a CF3 engine.
Yes there should be a gasket between the manifold and Cat section.
BUT, there were two types of manifold with different flanges requiring different gaskets.
Changeover was officially 15/2/2002, but as usual dates can't be relied on.

p/n are:
60816497 (which is listed as being replaced by: 46803532)
and
46823142

Go to a main dealer parts dept with your VIN number and that picture though to be sure.
They may not take a part back if you just buy it on the p/n.
