156 2.4 JTD great motor apart from total loss of power last week.

Cruised to a halt fortunately on A road rather than motorway.

Called assistance and prior to their arrival restarted engine and drove three miles before engine cut and came to a halt !

Assistance arrived and felt that lift pump in fuel tank at fault afterwards drove further 10 miles without incident. Motor at local recommended non Alfa garage who diagnosed crank sensor, air mass sensor and phase sensor inoperative. Any thoughts out there ??

Lift pump not apparently at fault !

could be crank sensor, when one sensor fails it tends to throw up a few on diogs, so you could ignore the others.

the car will run without an air mass connected.

Start by unplugging the MAF -- simplest one to test. If it runs OK the you need a new MAF. If still bad, could be crank sensor.

This is probably crank sensor failure. Crank sensor failure is a common problem, cheap to buy and easy to change, so its not too bad :)

Check the relays under the plastic cover in front of battery, knocked on of them taking battery out of mine and wouldn't run afterwards...quick "wiggle" and all ok

Thanks for the input. Yes did replace battery last month however seems to be good whilst diagnostics maintain......... phase sensor, crank sensor and airmass at fault !! Will check it all out Wednesday !:)

Thanks for all the input. problem resolved :) faze sensor, crank sensor and airmass all replaced motor greatly improved.
MPC Garage Basingstoke 01256 350902 strong recommend for excellent service.
Cost £200 +Vat labour which included replacing timing belt and tensioners Parts £400 +Vat

Labour at £45 /hour sounds a lot better than other quotes unless you have a chum who has the knowledge.!

Now back to enjoying the motor.
