Hello,

I'm a first time poster and need an opinion...

My 2001 156 that has recently been rear-ended. The punt also broke the n/s headlight and pushed the n/s wing back 10mm.

I would like to do a quick fix to keep the car usable before doing the cosmetics.

Is there anybody in the Southampton area who could do the job quickly and inexpensively?

Muchos Gracias :)

(Great forum btw)

Welcome to AO:) Sorry to see that your first post is a sad one. :( Give Loz a ring at Autolusso Bournemouth. They have a large selection of second hand panels available as the main branch of Autolusso has a massive scrapyard and he will also be able to check your car over and make it driveable. 01202861699

Are the insurance company involved? Thats almost certainly a write off if they are.

.....that is exactly what happened to me....mine was a 1999 model...you couldn't even see my exterior damage..........but underneath !!!......if that isn't a write off...i'll eat my hat !!!!

Why keep it ?

Get the insurance company to give u a courtesy car...and enjoy the time trying to find another Alfa !!

Unfortunately insurance companies don't give or let you keep a courtesy car once it has been declared a write off.

and that is certainly a write off.

....not strictly true.

Since it was the other party's fault, they have put you out...therefore make sure you drag your feet as long as possible...don't let insurance companies, independent assessors and claims handlers pressurize you into settling.

My insurance company couldn't get me a courtesy car fast enough...even before i'd agreed to it !!

They're all in it to make a buck...play them at their own game.

Bad luck :(. Be careful when dealing with insurance companies ..... I can think of a single word to describe them, and it rhymes with HUNTS . Be on your guard. Most insurance companies say in their automated telephone messages: "We are not representing you ... we are representing ourselves"

Guys & gals,

Thanks for taking the trouble to post.

Took my car to AlfaMotive / Autolusso Bournemouth, where Lawrence had a look at it. The prognosis wasn't good. I had to make the heart-wrenching decision to decommission my 156 :-(

At least the salvageable parts should find new life in another car... maybe yours :)

Happy Motoring.
