Car is a 156 2.0 JTS (2002).

Is changing the clutch (and brake) hydraulic fluid a DIY job or a garage job? Seems to be a case of draining the brakes and clutch hydraulics via the bleed screws (although I havent managed to find the one for the clutch yet :confused: ) and then re-filling the system and bleeding.

Anyone done all this and was it a b!tch of a job or not:confused:

If the clutch slave is the same on the JTS as the TS, then there isn't a bleed screw. You have to release a spring clip and pull the feed pipe out of the cylinder slightly to open the bleed valve. The bleed valve is moulded into the slave housing.

There's a how-to on my website with some pics and words ... the brakes are more straightforward and the same as most other cars. So if you've done it before, you will be fine.

And yes, it is a DIY job ...

You don't just drain the fluid. You pump new fluid through to push/flush the old stuff out. You'll soon see when the new fluid is getting through ... it's clean!

Drain as much out of the reservoir as you can before you start and make sure you keep it topped up. Those roasting pan pipettes to handle hot fat are ideal. You want to avoid getting any air in the system as it can be hard to bleed out of the ABS.

You can do it the old fashioned way ... a willing volunteer in the car pushing the brake/clutch pedal up and down, or get a pressurised system then you connect to a tyre valve which pushes new fluid through. IIRC the Gunson's ones in Halfords don't have the right connectors now and you have to send off for them.

I just use a simple bleed pipe with a one-way valve and and old cut-down squash bottle to catch the old fluid!

Strongly advise using pressurised bleeding, Gunson or whatever. The old way of pushing the clutch and closing off the bleed nipple does not seem to work well in modern cars, and if you get air in the system its a nightmare to get out.

The pressurised way is just so easy once you have got the right connectors and sussed out you have to top up the reservoir and most definetly NOT spill any hydraulic fluid which eats paintwork for breakfast.

i had to replace my slave cylinder but i can seem to get my system bled. tried pumping the pedal only getting air ; it does not seem to be getting the fluid any suggestions? 2.5 v6
