Hi all,

I am new to the site and have owned a few alfas in the past, but recently I bought a 2.4 jtd 03 plated alfa and there seems to be a bit of oil dripping out of from the sump cover (drivers side) The car has only just had an MOT (before I bought it) and the dip stick is reading max and the oil is crystal clear.

I was just wondering if there was a fundamental fault with this model... or maybe the oil change has been done and the filter hasn't been tightened properly??

If any one has had a similar problem then I would more than appreciate some advice.

I am also looking for a reasonable alfa independent mechanic down this way (lymington) nr - southampton/bournemouth?

Hi,
Thanks for the posts lads..

Well I have had her over the pit and removed the sump cover, the oil seems to be coming from above the oil filter area, so I am scratching my head slightly.

So, I am looking for a reputable alfa man on the south coast, does anyone know of a reasonable independant/garage who is down this way?

Regards in advance.

andyg1983,

Cheers for that. I have just had a look and the oil seems to be coming from the black plastic cover above the cam belt. I haven't removed cover yet but maybe like your saying it could be a seal under there. The car had a cam belt change not that long ago, so maybe this is when it started?

Hopefully this isnt a big job?

regards

Thanks Huge,

I have her in the local garage for a steam clean of the engine and then we can try to find where the oil is coming from, then I will decide if its a job they can do or if its going off to Auto lusso in bournemouth if its slightly to techi for my local.

One mechanic who has had experience with alfas said he feared the turbo may have gone when I told him the oil seemed to be coming from above the oil filter area??(it was a very brief conversation).... Does anyone know what the symptoms are for a knackered turbo?

Well if its coming from the "black plastic cover above the cam belt" as you said earlier, it can't be the turbo, as the turbo is low down at the front of the engine, no where near the cambelt , which is at the side of the engine.

Cheers Huge,

I HAVE HAD THE ENGINE STEAM CLEANED AND THE OIL SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM QUITE AWAY UNDER THE BLACK PLASTIC COVER ABOVE CAM BELT, SO I HAVE SWITCHED THE CAR FORM THE LOCAL GARAGE TO AUTOLUSSO BOURNEMOUTH.

Thanks again for the garage pointers, hopefully these cookies are pretty savvy with this model and they can put there finger on it pretty quick.

Hi All,

In my previous post I said I was looking for a reputable garage on the south coast and I was pointed in the direction of ALFA MOTIVE, know known as ALFA LUSSO based in Ferndown industrial park.

ALFA MOTIVE diagnosed the problem straight away and kept me updated with progress all the way through the works, whilst repairing it. The problem with the car was a cam seal leaking (well diagnosed HUGE), but caused by an inexperienced, heavy handed idiot who had fitted a cam belt in feb and decided the only way to remove the cam wheel was with a screw driver, in turn cracking and deforming the alloy were the cam seal sits.

Laurence the owner is a geniunley competant cookie, very easy to deal with and very reasonable...

10/10 for Auto Motive.. and many many thanks to the Alfa owner forumites for helping diagnose the problem and pointing me in the right direction..

Laurence worked for me for 7 years and learnt all his Alfa stuff with us, I am happy for him the use the Autolusso as I know he will do a good job and not let me down.

Laurence will do this sort of job and servicing etc but any big stuff (engine rebuilds etc) will be transported here. We have a good working relationship and he has our support completely

Keep up the good work Loz!
