my 10 valve 2,4 jtd has developed a noise down under in front of the engine like a squel type of,despite regular 10000 km service full 5 w 40 oil.it is like every 2 sec on idle but goes away on revving and its mostly on cold days and or cold engine.it is not the tensioneer or the pulleys i checked,even took the timing out and spinned the water pump despite only 30000 miles on it no noise

the only thing could be the oil pump chain or the balancer shaft that it drives as well,still never heard of jtd s oil pump problems,anybody any idea before i take 2 days off to remove the sump, timing,etc to get at the pump [chain] ?thanks in advance.

Is it a 136, 140 or 150? The early 136 engines are known for oil pump / chain issues. They revised the setup when the 140 engine came out early 2001.
