Cooling fan doesn't come on when the engine is getting too hot.

The problem appears to be with the sender / sensor fitted in the radiator - the contacts have been cleaned and I can make the fan come on when the engine is hot (> 90 degrees) by wiggling the connectors. Can the unit within the radiator be replaced seperately or is it a new rad??

Cheers

your fan shouldnt kick in till over 90degrees anyway this is the normal operating temp, just over this the fan should operate at slow speed to keep the temp gauge around 90 if it goes to the next segment on the gauge and the fan kicks in on high speed then its the resistor in the radiator that is at fault, this is a very common problem, just buy a new one two screws and its changed, check your connectors for corrosion aswell you may well need to stick a couple of new ones on.

The resistor which is mounted to the radiator can be replaed sepeately, about £35 for the part 51736774 and 2 minutes to change.
