My lovely Rosso red 2.0 TS, 156, has bottom end rattles.

I've had her assessed by 2 mechanics now and they both conclude it could be anything from £300 to £1000+ to fix depending on what they find after stripping her down.

She's sitting all forlorn on my drive and I've been walking/catching trains to get to work (I knew it would snow while I had no car!!!!) as we're expecting our third child in the summer and I really can't afford to do anything with her right now. So have registered her SORN and cancelled my insurance.

So guys & girls, my question is this : should I go to the hassle of stripping my car down and selling her parts off or try and sell her as a non-running (she does actually drive still) car? Anyone had any experience they can lend to me?

Depends how much money means to you!

It'll be worth more in parts than as a whole...

depends what year it is, it might be worth something to someone who knows what they're doing and can fix it up, could always try asking a few garages, or maybe even specialists if they'd be interested in having it, someone who could fix it up then sell it on without having to pay huge labour bills could well be interested in it

Are you mechnically minded? the money in the car would of been the engine and i dont think the hastle of breaking her will get much more cash than sell whole... As she is its worth about £300, broken worth double that but if you factor in your time in doing so and you paid yourself minimum wage would you make much more than selling whole?

Getting money for her isn't my main concern to be honest. Obviously a fair price would be nice, but I'd get just as much satisfaction out of knowing my car helped someone else fix theirs up. Owning an Alfa has changed my perspective on car ownership forever! :thumbs:

Not in the least bit mechanically minded (hence the 2 different mechanics to look at her). I'd take anything over £200 as a whole was my thinking. The image of having her stripped down on my drive may be kind of disturbing!

If I had the cash or the time I'd get in touch. As it is, we've made a decision to let her go and get another later on. For now it will have to be a cheap run-around sometime in the summer. Cheers though!

Just realised there's a new (?) classified section, so may put her on there.

Autotrader could be worth a try, also the Ad-Mag could work too.
