Guys,

After a blast down a dual carrage way this morning i pulled up at an island, went to move off and it felt like i was in 3rd gear.

Checked it was in first and tried giving it a bit more boot and nothing. Looked out the rear mirror and loads of greyish black smoke.

I'm thinking turbo as there is zero power, its horrid to drive and doesn't hardly move.

Are there any specialists around the Coventry/Birmingham area? I've been quoted £764 inc VAT from the dealer and £749 inc VAT from a local parts place. Both prices hurt!!!

Any advice/things to check before forking out?

Thanks!!!

...worth checking the intake hose as it's rather common they split or could even be only a loose hose clip. If there is a leak you may be able to see a bit of oil "dust" near the leak...

Guys,

After much faffing about yesterday i changed the air flow metre that sits in the air filter housing pipe thing and that seems to have almost cured the problem, however the car now feels really sluggish until it gets to around 2200 revs and then picks up.

Any ideas why this would be happening? Even parked on the drive in neutral reving above 2000 revs is very slow.

Cheers!!!

That said, just been looking on the web and found that there are2 different MAF sensors for the 19jtd (CF2 and 3) i have a CF3 engine, if a CF2 MAF sensor was fitted would it make it be down on power?

Thanks again!

Have you checked the boost hoses for splits? Its a common fault on the 1.9 engine that one of the boost pipes wears through on something, causing the engine not to be getting the boost it needs.

A very small split would give the symptoms you are describing, also a gummed open EGR valve would as well.

If you want to diagnose the MAF, try running with no MAF plugged in at all. Then engine has a MAP sensor and so it runs fairly well with no MAF plugged in at all, it should drive pretty much like normal..

I checked all the hoses yesterday, they all looked to be in good shape, the pipe from the air cleaner to the turbo was dirty and a little soft feeling (is that normal?) but i couldn't find any splits. I disconnect the MAF and give it a spin.

Cheers.
